The Common Cold
Treatment
"Burn 2 drops of eucalyptus and
2 drops of lemon in a vaporizer really helps dispel the common
cold and flu. Hope this helps all cold and flu out there"
-- Debbie Powell
Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifloria)
Tea Tree oil has powerful anti-viral properties. It is especially
effective to prevent infection and also can help to stop the spread
of a cold, especially with children. Tea Tree oil acts as a stimulant
for the immuno system, which also helps to deal with any infection.
Using the oil in a burner in the house can have very beneficial
results.
Frankincense (Boswellia Carteri, Olibanum, Gum Thus)
Frankincense has a long tradition in fighting
infection. The Egyptians used it to fumigate the sick, aiming
to banish the evil spirits responsible for the illness.
It has a pronounced effect on the mucous
membranes, particularly helpful in clearing the lungs. It is good
for respiration; it can ease breathing and therefore is useful
for Asthma sufferers. It is also a good remedy for catarrhal conditions
and regulates secretions. It has a soothing function on head colds
and coughs. A soothing massage with a blend of frankincense and
a suitable carrier oil can be physically beneficial as well as
spiritually uplifting. This can help to prevent that 'washed out'
feeling after a cold.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus oil has a very powerful stimulating
and cleansing effect. It is widely used in many cold remedies
and has a proven decongesting effect. To produce an effective
steam inhalation, add 2 drops of the oil into a bowl of steaming
water. Cover head and inhale for 5-10 minutes. It can relieve
congestion and fight against infection.
